Rich Groene - Head Coach Rich Groene has always loved sports. Growing up in a rural community he played high school football, basketball, track and legion baseball. He was always an avid fan and active participant ...show more in his daughter Maggie's basketball days with the Omaha Warriors, and with his son Aron's football and basketball with the Warriors and Lightning. He coached basketball for 6th - 8th graders in the Omaha city leagues from 1993-2003. He coached a junior high team in the Nebraska State games in 1999. After his son graduated from high school, he and Aron coached the Lightning football team in 2003 and 2004. After Aron left for the Marine Corp, Rich continued to coach the Lightning until 2008. He was a Royal Ranger Commander from 1991 - 2005, in which he was commander over each of the age groups at one time or another. This included class time, and as many camping trips as they could squeeze in during the year. Rich and his wife were actively involved in the outreach program at their church and even started a home ministry designed to meet some of the needs of area children. They mentored, encouraged, and got these kids involved in church, Royal Rangers, camping, and a great many other things. Aron Groene - Assistant Aron was involved in home school athletics where he played flag football for four years with the Omaha Warriors, and playing basketball for three years. After graduating he helped organize, ...show more develop and coach the Omaha Lightning flag football team for two years before enlisting in the United States Marine Corp. After five years of service he has come back to Omaha to continue his education. He believes that the lessons of hard work, discipline, sacrifice and team work learned from football go well beyond the field of play and will continue to benefit those who learn them for the rest of their lives. Roger Perrigo - Assistant Roger has always had a passion for football, growing up playing for the Omaha Li’l Vikes as a child and for Omaha North in High School. After his playing days were over, he attended the University of Nebraska,...show more where he majored in Exercise Science. He then went on to receive his Doctorate of Chiropractic from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Florida, and is the owner of Foundations Chiropractic Center in Papillion. Roger knows that the bonds formed during practices and games create friendships that go far beyond the field of play, as he is still very good friends with many of his old teammates. He also feels that sports instill many good qualities in young people that they may be hard pressed to learn otherwise.
